Man sentenced to 5 years for involvement in cell phone killing

The investigation into a teen’s death from 2015 officially wrapped up on Tuesday.

Desmond Smith, 14, was shot and killed at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs on July 18, 2015.

The third man involved in the murder of Smith, Raymond David Rogan, Sr., pleaded guilty to accessory to a crime and was sentenced to five years in prison with mandatory parole.

The judge said Rogan, Sr., contributed to a senseless murder by removing two cartridge casings, hiding the firearm connected to the shooting, and failing to tell detectives.

In late July, Smith’s killer, Riccardo Clinton Kirven, was found guilty of first-degree. Authorities believe Kirven killed Smith over a missing cell phone that belonged to Kirven’s nephew, Raymond Rogan Jr.

Rogan, Jr., pleaded guilty in July 2016 to accessory to murder and attempted child abuse resulting in death.
