Sports Authority signs to be removed from football stadium

More than a year after Sports Authority declared bankruptcy, it is finally in the works to remove the signs at the stadium in Denver.

Broncos President and CEO Joe Ellis said the process would take place in the next 10 days.

Sports Authority went bankrupt in March 2016. The business had five years left on its $19.2 million contract but was unable to make a $3.6 million payment in August of 2016. The former retail store tried to market the contract, but no cash bid was offered.

The Broncos ended up being the highest bidder and was granted the contract and naming rights to the stadium in November. Now, the team is trying to secure a new naming rights holder.

The stadium will still be named Sports Authority Field at Mile High because there are some events connected to the name in the coming months, according to KDVR.
