Rocky Ford High School evacuated due to hoax bomb threat

Students at Rocky Ford High School had to be evacuated on Monday afternoon.

A person called the school at 2:31 p.m. stating that a bomb inside the school would go off in five minutes, according to the Rocky Ford Police Department.

The Police Department and the Rocky Ford Fire Department responded and had the students evacuate to the football field.

After five minutes, nothing occurred. It was around 20 minutes before authorities entered the building to check for an explosive device.

Students and staff were allowed to reenter the school after about an hour and a half later. They were taken to the auditorium by the police department to be informed of the incident and the safety concerns caused by bomb threats.

Police do have leads on who made the call but wouldn’t give additional details.

This is an ongoing investigation.
