District 7 - Republican Party

How does your experience make you qualified to represent the people?

My qualifications are centered in a lifetime of service rather than a pursuit of politics. My nearly 30-year Army career, service as a Ranger, experience as a school board member, and role as a single father all point toward leadership, responsibility, and making difficult decisions under pressure. I’ve called Colorado home since 1973, and I understand the state's people and communities, rather than viewing Congress as simply another career opportunity. Public office is simply another chapter of service, and my love of family, duty, and accountability is not about my résumé – but it is about quality of life and my contributions to my fellow Coloradans.

What are your top policy priorities?

I’m simply committed to improving everyday life for the people of Colorado's CD-7. Rather than presenting a lengthy ideological agenda, I will focus upon practical concerns: affordability, housing, water, public safety, economic opportunity, forest management, and independent representation. My campaign is one of stewardship, not politics. Each issue is filtered through the same decision-making standard and whether it benefits the district. Period. I’ll deploy one governing philosophy integrated with and across seven District priorities. These priorities are not traditional “campaign promises.” We’ve seen too many promises and not enough action. I will do things differently.

What is one issue you think is being overlooked in this race, and how would you address it?

It’s not a single issue that is being looked over. What I, and so many other people increasingly feel every day, is a growing gap between Colorado and Washington DC. Too much attention is being paid to national political battles while too little attention is paid to representing the unique needs of Colorado's Seventh District. Our District deserves and once voted for independent judgment instead of automatic alignment with Washington or a national political party. The population of the CD-7 have unaddressed concerns that don’t need more policies piled on. We need a return to answering the question of what our representation should look like. I simply believe Congress should spend less time representing Washington to Colorado and more time representing Colorado to Washington.
