How does your experience make you qualified to represent the people?

I grew up in southeast Colorado in Ordway/Crowley County, hog farming in my early years. I received my degree in Religion from Liberty University. I am a Commercial Real Estate appraiser and live now in Canon City in Fremont County with my wife, 2 kids and 5 grandkids. And I have represented the people of Canon City and Fremont County at both the local and state level. My rural upbringing and my small business background coupled with my local and state government experience has suited me to being the chief steward for the dollars entrusted to the state treasury on behalf of the hard-working people of this state. I bring an understanding of what is required of small business to thrive in Colorado and lately what it takes to survive. I bring an understanding of what it takes on the local level to best represent the people in effectively spending their hard-earned dollars and doing more with less to plow roads and fill potholes. And I bring an understanding of the leadership that it takes to guide policy and be the fiscally responsible advocate that Coloradans need and deserve.

What are your top policy priorities?

1. My aim will be to maximize taxpayer dollars and be a vocal advocate for Colorado families struggling through the affordability crisis. This is a clear distinction between me and my opponent. He has said he does not want to grow the state's investments and in fact, wants to minimize their returns. He's also leading the charge to increase taxes again on Coloradans. The state should be doing more with less and not adding to the affordability crisis.

2. We have an obligation to make and keep PERA funded to guarantee that our retirees continue to have a pension and ensure that our current employees have one in the future.

3. Our Unclaimed Property Trust Fund must be protected from the Legislative budget balancing process and returned to the rightful owners as soon as possible.

What is one issue you think is being overlooked in this race, and how would you address it?

Perhaps the most overlooked aspect is what is at stake for the regular hard-working taxpayer with respect to this race. For years of single-party rule, Colorado families have seen their property taxes increase resulting in higher mortgage bills, higher local sales taxes, higher fees for services – and now we find ourselves in the midst of an affordability crisis. At the end of the day, my opponent has voted to support most of those increases and now supports a ballot measure increasing income taxes. I understand that the taxpayer cannot bear any more of the expensive habits of the current state leaders and that they need someone to trust them with their own money and stand up for them instead of constantly asking for more.
