District 9 - Democratic Party

How does your experience make you qualified to represent the people?

My working adult life has been packed with Leadership roles. At 22 years of age, I was trusted with National secrets in how to conduct nuclear deterrence operations.  Even until this past Oct, I worked in a leadership role that had me as lead over some 250+ people over 19 different time zones conducting operations requiring the best in working with others.  In all these positions, they required an individual that can listen, learn, and act decisively.  All of my taskings required working with people in varied positions and opinions. Many of the decisions I made were of National importance as my duties were virtually 5 levels below the Office of the President.  There was no room for error and the decisions I made rested on my shoulders.  My ability to understand people and see their needs is second nature to me.  The "buck" truly stopped with me.  The same applies right here in Senate District 9.  I have a wide-range of constituents with many varied needs.  My life has truly aligned me to work in this environment and I work best under pressure and always deliver.

What are your top policy priorities?

Easy enough!  Affordability.   Affordable housing; affordable healthcare; affordable child care; affordable living are priority along with others such as fixing our infrastructure which is not keeping up with the pace of and needs of those moving to the front range.  Colorado recently topped nearly 6 million in population. However, we need to take a look at why many are still leaving through the "back door."  Teachers: we want them to take care of our kids and teach them.  Yet we will not pay them according to the value of their work.  Many are looking elsewhere. When it comes down to it, our college age and first-time workers simply find it difficult to stay here and prosper.  That needs to change.  We have the very best minds in this district and state.  We have to take care of them as well as our aging population. These areas form the tenents of my campaign.  SD-9 and this county needs someone that will not be a career politician.  We need someone that wants to work for them.

What is one issue you think is being overlooked in this race, and how would you address it?

I have heard nothing from anyone about illicit drugs.  I am ready to move out with giving law enforcement the tools they need to combat this out-of-control plague.  It is killing our youth.  We can't just sit back and wish it away.  I will work with every segment of our community to put together a plan of action designed to support combating this problem. From clergy, to teachers, to law enforcement, to social services.  As soon as possible after stepping into the role as Senator, this is an area that will keep me focused on what is essential—-our youth.  I have their back.  As a part of my major for my Baccalaureate degree, Law Enforcement has been a focus area.  Also, as an Honorary Member of the County Sheriff's of Colorado since 2013, I know what our men and women in blue need in order to make a dent in this problem.  But when dealing with individuals that may be addicted, I also know there has to be a level of compassion for these individuals. They need help.   I have a workload and I am ready to get started.
