Matthew Martinez

KRDO

District 62 - Democratic Party

How does your experience make you qualified to represent the people?

I am the most qualified person in this race. I am a Marine Corps and Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran, and I hold a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science degree with almost a decade of experience in Higher Education. I also previously served a term on the Monte Vista City Council.  I have passed 58 bills in my 4 years in the legislature 90% of those are bi-partisan.  I have proven to be an effective legislator that works across the aisle to pass legislation that promotes and protects rural Colorado.  Lastly, I was elected and served as the Majority House Co-Whip.

What are your top policy priorities?

My top priorities to address in this next legislative session are affordability, protection of water and assisting our Veterans

What is one issue you think is being overlooked in this race, and how would you address it?

One issue that I think is being overlooked in this race is how critical water policy is going to affect the next few years in the district as well as the state. Climate change has shown particularly this year just how fragile our water is not just in southern Colorado, but the state as well.
