Jena Griswold

Democratic Party
How does your experience make you qualified to represent the people?
I am running for Attorney General because Colorado needs a strong, proven leader in this critical moment.
The AG sets the legal direction and manages a large organization with over 700 professionals, while collaborating with numerous stakeholders across all levels of government and diverse communities to achieve results efficiently. AG is not a trial attorney. The AG is an executive who sets the vision and makes strategic decisions.
Here is why my experience is the strongest for the actual job. I am the only candidate in this race with statewide executive leadership experience. I bring over seven years of experience guiding the Colorado Department of State through some of the biggest threats to democracy our country has seen in modern times.
As Secretary of State, we played a leading role on several high-profile elections and democracy issues, including working so that Trump’s Postmaster General was stopped from sending out bad voter information in 2020, removing Tina Peters from direct elections oversight, and advocating to disqualify Trump from Colorado’s ballot. And I am being sued by Trump’s DOJ right now because I refuse to turn over Coloradans’ sensitive voter data to the federal government. I’ve managed this office through the COVID pandemic and during Trump’s assault on elections, and I have never backed down - even in the face of death threats.
I am the candidate with the experience that matters most to voters at this moment: standing up to Trump. As AG, I’ll continue that fight to protect our democracy and fundamental rights.
What are your top policy priorities?
My top priority is protecting our democracy, our freedoms, and our state. As Attorney General, I will continue standing up to Trump and MAGA extremists to protect our rights and stop the attacks on Colorado.
Other top issues I will focus on as AG include protecting abortion access, safeguarding civil rights, and fighting for workers. As Secretary of State, I called for Colorado not to extradite anyone for violating another state’s abortion ban and supported Colorado’s protections of abortion access. And as a new mother who used fertility treatment while trying to start a family, I will do everything I can to make sure that all Coloradans have access to reproductive care, including birth control, IVF, and abortion access.
Protecting working Coloradans is personal to me. I was the first in my family to attend a four year college and law school, and still have over $200,000 in student loans. As Attorney General, I will go after illegal corporate greed and illegal price gouging. And I plan to staff up an Office of Workers' Rights to pursue wage theft and illegal behavior.
What is one issue you think is being overlooked in this race, and how would you address it?
Too many politicians are too scared to take on the gun lobby. I am not. As Attorney General, I will fight to pass a stronger ban on assault weapons. We must also fix the rape kit backlog in our state. It’s unacceptable that victims must wait for months to have evidence processed. I will fight to make sure every vicitim of sexual violence can seek justice and that DNA evidence is processed quickly and with the respect it deserves.
