EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Wednesday, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office released the name of the second deputy involved in a deadly shooting that left two people and the suspect dead.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, the EPCSO received a 911 call transferred from Fort Carson at 5:07 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7. When two deputies and an officer with the Fountain Police Department arrived they were immediately met with gunfire from the suspect, a 33-year-old John Paz.

Deputy Andrew Peery, 39, was hit and gravely injured.

According to the sheriff's office, Deputy Dan Carey returned fire. Once additional personnel arrived, they began lifesaving measures on Dep. Peery. Unfortunately, he died at the hospital.

Later, the CSPD Tactical Enforcement Unit (TEU) entered the suspect's home and found Paz dead inside due to an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigators later confirmed the identity of the second victim, Alex Paz. KRDO spoke with Alex's mother, who confirmed that she was going through a divorce with the suspect.

Per Colorado Revised Statute  16-2.5-301, the Colorado Springs Police Department is the lead investigative agency for the officer-involved shooting. CSPD will also take lead investigative responsibilities for the homicide investigations of Dep. Peery and Alex.

According to the EPCSO, Dep. Carey has been placed on administrative leave per their department policies. No other responding officers or deputies fired a weapon during this incident.
