Springs Rescue Mission receive special donation from Wilson Elementary students

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - The Wilson Elementary student council class of 2022 will donate a check for $600 to the Springs Rescue Mission.

It's been about two years since the student council class was able to get together for a project like this due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but this year they were able to knock this off their list.

The student council class is composed of nine students in 4th and 5th grade. For two weeks, the students gave up some of their mornings and after-school time to raise funds for the donation.

Student council teacher Ilka Andino has been at the forefront of this project, providing moral support and guidance to her students. She said she believes this a step in teaching these students about kindness and being leaders in the community.

“These students, many of whom have families who struggle to make ends meet came together to raise this money and give to those in need in our community. They want to make a difference," said Andino.
