Election Day in Colorado Springs: What you need to know

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO)-- It's Election Day in Colorado Springs, and voters will decide who will be the Olympic City's next mayor.

As of Tuesday afternoon, voter turnout is at 23%, which means close to 73,000 ballots have been returned. However, that's low in comparison to other mayoral election years.

"We only had a 28% turnout in 2021 and that was your council district races. This year, come on people get out there and vote those ballots and turn them in. Let's not make this another record low-turnout election. We typically in the past have gotten 38% to 40% turn out in a mayoral election," said Sarah Johnson the city clerk.

Since there is no in-person voting for the city election, people have until 7 p.m. Tuesday to submit their ballot at a drop-off location. Every single ballot drop-off location is open until 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

There are 26 ballot drop-off locations around the city.

"You can certainly bring your packet here vote it and put it right in a box, but there’s no actual in-person voting except for those who are visually impaired or have mobility issues with their hands. We do have some voting machines available with audio for them to vote," said Johnson.

Polls close at 7 p.m. tonight and results will start to come in around 7:30 pm.
