Affidavit: Colorado Springs police officer accused of stalking husband, fellow cop
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- An arrest affidavit outlines the relationship between two Colorado Springs Police officers and what led up to one of the officers being arrested and charged with stalking.
According to court documents obtained by 13 Investigates, 27-year-old Stephanie Landreneau is accused of stalking 37-year-old Brandon Landreneau.
The arrest affidavit says on April 28, 2021, Detective Sergeant S. Schneider requested a follow-up on a possible domestic violence incident involving Stephanie and Brandon. The investigation found Stephanie and Brandon were in the Colorado Springs Police Department Academy in November 2018, began dating in December 2018, and eventually moved in together in May of 2019.
The affidavit says Brandon and Stephanie have a child together.
According to the affidavit, Brandon spoke with investigators on Wednesday. During the interview, he told police that he and Stephanie argued most of their relationship, describing her as having a "strong personality, my way or the highway."
While discussing their relationship, Brandon said he and Stephanie had agreed to work on separate shifts after a year of working together. However, he told police Stephanie went back on that decision and picked his shift again. By 2022, though, they began working opposite shifts.
According to court documents, Brandon works the midnight shift in the Stetson Hills Division and Stephanie works the day shift in the Sand Creek Division.
Additionally, Brandon told police Stephanie would go through his cell phone and social media accounts at the beginning of their relationship. The affidavit says Brandon eventually shut down his social media accounts "because it was causing too much drama" between him and Stephanie.
Following a verbal argument in mid-January 2022, the affidavit says Brandon "decided that their relationship was not going to work." Brandon moved out of the house he shared with Stephanie on March 1, 2022.
The affidavit says the "discussion of divorce between the two occurred several times and divorce papers had been signed a couple of times, but they never followed through with the divorce." It's unclear if they are still legally married.
According to the affidavit, Brandon began "talking" to Kathryn Pennington in February 2022 and began an intimate relationship with her in March 2022. Brandon said Stephanie was unaware of their relationship until she reviewed an accidental recording on Brandon's Body Worn Camera (BWC), of a "sexual in nature" phone conversation between Brandon and Kathryn on either late March 25 or early March 26.
According to the affidavit, the conversation happened on their personal cell phones, but it was during their shifts.
On late March 26 into March 27, the affidavit says Brandon, Kathryn, and another officer, identified as Angela Barragan, were finishing up a Call For Service (CFS) when Brandon received a call from Stephanie saying he needed to come home. Angela told police Brandon left that shift. At that same time, Kathryn began receiving calls and texts to her personal and department-issued cell phones.
In the affidavit, Kathryn told police she received three phone calls to her work phone and five texts, and ten phone calls to her personal cell phone. According to the affidavit, all phone calls and messages came from Stephanie.
The court documents include the series of text messages Stephanie sent to Kathryn:

In the affidavit, Kathryn told police she sent a message from her personal cell to Brandon asking him "what was she supposed to do." However, after Kathryn sent that text, she didn't have any further communication with Brandon or Stephanie.
Mid-day on March 27, the affidavit says Brandon told Kathryn Stephanie had planned to pick up a "hireback" at the Stetson Hills Substation, the district where they worked. According to Brandon, Stephanie was planning on confronting Kathryn in the women's locker room about Brandon.
Additionally, the affidavit says Brandon told Kathryn that Stephanie planned to "make a scene" and talk with Sergeant Rekar about their relationship.
Based on that information, Kathryn told police she decided to go into work early and speak with Sgt. Rekar to tell him what Stephanie allegedly planned on doing.
The night of March 27, the affidavit says Stephanie did show up to the Stetson Hills Substation but was confronted by Sgt. Rekar. She was eventually asked to leave the substation.
The affidavit states: "Kathryn said the whole situation with Stephanie made her very uncomfortable because she did not know how Stephanie obtained her personal cell phone number. It made Kathryn wonder what other information Stephanie obtained about her, for example, her home address. She said it additionally made her stressed and worried for her employment since Stephanie threatened to talk to her (Kathryn's sergeants and Internal Affairs (IA)."
Brandon told police Stephanie confronted him with the BWC recording, saying she recorded it with her cell phone and was going to provide it to the department.
According to the affidavit, Brandon said the earliest he was aware that Stephanie was watching his BWC was in October 2021. He said he knew this because while he was on CFS that she wasn't involved in, Stephanie would make comments to Brandon about specific details from the call. Brandon said she admitted to watching his BWC and he did tell her to stop.
Brandon told police he initially believed her, but later learned that other officers cannot watch each other's BWCs, officers can only watch their own.
In the court documents, Brandon said Stephanie got his password and logged into his BWC. He told police he never provided Stephanie with passwords, but believed she got them from his personal cell phone where he keeps his passwords for various accounts.
In the affidavit, Brandon told police he may be "desensitized" to being watched by her "because of his profession he is always being watched. However, it did make him a little upset, but it did not surprise him because of Stephanie's on-going behaviors."
When asked how many times he estimated that Stephanie confronted him about what he was doing at work, Brandon told police "a lot."
According to the affidavit, at the end of the interview, Sgt. Schneider entered the room to speak with Brandon. The affidavit says, "Sgt. Schneider asked Brandon if his experience as a Police Officer with Domestic Violence control, manipulation and the cycle of violence played a role in his life based upon Stephanie's actions and Brandon answered 'yes.'"
Landreneau was arrested on May 4. She faces a class five felony charge for stalking Brandon.
