MGN

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Police say a 43-year-old man passed away after a rollover crash on Interstate 25 in Colorado Springs early Thursday morning.

Officers were dispatched just after 1 a.m. to the Tejon Street exit on southbound I-25. Police found a man who had been ejected from his car, a Chevrolet pick-up truck. He was taken to the hospital, where he passed away from his serious injuries.

Detectives say the driver was traveling southbound on I-25 at a high rate of speed when it ran off the right side of the road and struck a guardrail, causing it to roll over twice.

Officers say no other vehicles were involved in the crash and it is unknown if impairment was a contributing factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

This is the 29th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At the same time in 2019, there were 30 traffic fatalities in the city.

Police say they will release the identity of the man at a later date.
