Wildland fire burning in southwest Colorado Springs, less than 1 acre

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A fire first reported near the Mt. Muscoco trailhead around 2 a.m. Saturday is reported to be less than one acre but in steep and rocky terrain, according to the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

Fire officials said a helicopter will help by dropping water on the flames. Firefighters began hiking up the mountain around 8 a.m. on foot and motorcycle.

CSFD said crews are being proactive as high winds and fire danger are forecasted for Saturday.

There are no evacuation orders in place right now but CSFD said North Cheyenne Canyon Park and Helen Hunt Falls will be closed Saturday. CSFD says evacuation orders would be posted on 'PeakAlerts.'

At 1:45 p.m. CSFD said crews will remain on scene for the rest of the day to contain the fire.
