CASA holds Dudes & Brews recruiting event aimed at getting more men interested in volunteering

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Wednesday evening, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Pikes Peak Region is hosting a volunteer recruiting event. During this gathering, CASA hopes to find men willing to step up and become voices for children in need.

The Dudes and Brews Volunteer Info Hour is an opportunity for men to learn more about CASA and the importance of working with children who have entered the family court system and child welfare system because of abuse, neglect, or domestic violence.

According to CASA, there are roughly 800 kids in the Pikes Peak region who need a CASA volunteer to advocate for their best interests. Of those kids, around 400 are young boys who need strong, male role models.

Officials with CASA say boys who have experienced abuse or neglect at a young age run a high risk of repeating the cycles of violence. CASA said it wants to show these boys what it means to be safe, respectful, and responsible through the example of adult male volunteers.

Wednesday's event begins at 6:30 p.m. at The Carter Payne at 320 S. Weber St. There will be free appetizers and the first beer is also free.

People need to RSVP ahead of the event, which you can do so here.
