Police investigating armed home invasion that left one person seriously injured

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is investigating an armed home invasion that left one person with serious injuries Monday night.

According to the police, officers were dispatched to an assault in progress and home invasion involving weapons at around 9:45 p.m on July 13 at the Arbor Pointe Apartments on the corner of Hancock Expressway and Delta Drive.

CSPD says when officers arrived, they found one victim suffering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Law enforcement reports that an investigation found that two suspects forcibly entered the victim's apartment and assaulted the victim. The suspects left the scene before officers arrived, says CSPD.

When KRDO13 arrived on scene the morning of July 14, the apartment door was blocked off with police tape, and there was a trail of blood throughout the third-floor hallway.

Rudy Hernandez lives in the building and was upstairs visiting a neighbor when he came face-to-face with two people in the hallway.

“I didn’t really think it was going to be some kind of violence. My first reaction was to ask them to leave. 'Do you guys live here? Who are you looking for?'” Hernandez said.

Hernandez said he ran into his friend's apartment when he saw the suspects' weapon. He said the incident was especially concerning for the more vulnerable people living here.

“There’s two little kids. They were traumatized. There was an elderly lady who’s in a walker who does the Bible studies. I’ve never seen her so traumatized. She was shaking and nervous, and the two kids were crying,” Hernandez said.

The suspects have not been identified, and the investigation remains ongoing, according to police.

KRDO13 spoke with the leasing office at Arbor Pointe Apartments, which declined to comment on the incident.
