Fatal crash closes parts of both sides of Interquest in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- All of Interquest/Highway 83 between New Life Drive and Shoup Road remains closed after a fatal crash, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).

CSPD says they responded to a crash at Highway 83 and Powers Boulevard around 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, July 30. Officials say a preliminary investigation revealed a F-350 pulling a dump trailer was travelling east bound when a car made a left turn and the two cars collided.

The front of the truck hit the passenger side of the car, according to officials. One person was pronounced dead the scene, while a second person was taken to the hospital for serious, possibly life-threatening injuries, CSPD says. A third person had visible injuries but was not taken to the hospital.

CSPD says the closure also covers the parts of southbound Powers Boulevard in that area. Northbound Powers is open to the Highway 83 intersection. They say the area will remain closed for a few hours while CSPD investigates.

Officials ask drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
