The School Buzz: Springs school embraces the great outdoors

KRDO

COLORADO SPRINGS (KRDO) -- A Colorado Springs elementary school prides itself on its outdoor programs. And last week, its students really stepped up by stepping out.

Students at Howbert Elementary hosted its 9th annual walk-a-thon on campus to raise money for their school and its outdoor activities programs.

Police officers, mascots, and even Stormtroopers joined 250 Howbert students to raise $19,000.

"This year we’re hoping to build a sensory garden at the school and we also help fund field trips, we buy supplies for any outdoor learning the teachers want to do, just extra funds the district, we don’t have,” said walk-a-thon chairperson Amanda-Joe Nelson.
