El Paso County Sheriff’s office holds flag-raising ceremony for fallen Deputy Andrew Peery

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A flag raising ceremony was held Friday morning to honor the life of El Paso County Deputy Andrew Peery, who was recently killed in the line of duty.

The ceremony took place in front of the El Paso County Sherriff's Office.

Peery was killed on Aug. 7 when he responded to a shooting in Security-Widefield.

The 39-year-old was once stationed at Fort Carson. He served in the Infantry from 2001 to 2014 before beginning his career as a police officer in Bakersfield, Calif. Those who knew him told KRDO he was an "excellent soldier" who "gave his all." He had been with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office since 2016.

Peery's funeral will be held Monday, Aug. 10 at 11 a.m at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs. The service will be open to the public.
