Colorado Springs Police search for shooting suspect

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting between an armed man and three Colorado Springs Police officers.

Three officers were called to the Pikeview Reservoir off Mark Dabling Blvd. around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday on reports of a man firing off a gun. When the officers arrived on the scene they tried to contact the suspect. The man began firing at officers, who then returned fire.

Each officer fired off at least one shot in the suspect's direction, though at this time it's unclear whether he was hit. None of the officers were injured.

At this time, the suspect is still on the run. The Sheriff's Office says he's a heavyset male of unknown race. At this time the southbound lanes of Mark Dabling Blvd. will be closed from Garden of the Gods Rd. toward Fillmore St. until around 10 a.m. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is urging drivers to seek alternate routes as they continue their investigation.
