Snow falls in Southern Colorado on May 21

Southern Colorado woke up to snow and slick road conditions Tuesday morning. (PHOTOS)

Weather

Heavy snow accumulated in parts of Teller County and El Paso County. Places south of Colorado Springs saw very minimal if any accumulation. People in Pueblo County encountered heavy rain Tuesday.

Schools

School districts throughout Southern Colorado either delayed or canceled classes. Coronado High School in Colorado Springs delayed graduation by an hour.

Roads

Drivers experienced slick and wet conditions Tuesday morning. The City of Fountain and City of Colorado Springs were both placed on Accident Alert Status throughout the morning hours.

During this time, drivers have up to 72 hours to file a cold crash report with the police department or state patrol. Those forms are available online, by clicking here.

A chain law was in effect for I-25 NB over Monument Hill.

I-70 was closed due to a rock slide in Glenwood Canyon. According to CDOT, eastbound traffic stopped at mile marker 116, westbound traffic was stopped at mile marker 133. Click here for updates.

Trees down

If you experience downed trees, click here to report the issue online.

City Forestry prioritizes downed and damaged city trees and trees in the public right of way. Crews are focusing on trees blocking the public right of way or pose a danger to the public.

Downed trees on private property are the responsibility of the owner. The City of Colorado Springs says owners should contact home insurance or a private tree removal company. The City will not respond unless there is a threat to life or a power line is involved.
