Experts: 1 in 5 childhood burns comes from instant soups like ramen noodles
A new study suggests ramen noodles and instant soups are responsible for one out of every five childhood scald burns, especially if they are microwaved.
This research will be presented Monday at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference. Experts looked at more than 45-hundred scald burns among children aged four to 12, recorded over a period of just over a decade.
Scald burns are defined as burns caused by liquid or steam, rather than dry heat. They can sometimes require hospitalization or surgery.
According to an article from CNN, researchers found that 21.5 percent of scald burns in children were caused by microwaving instant soup and ramen.
The new findings have motivated certain experts into questioning whether these type of meals are safe. They say parents should be extra cautious when allowing children to handle these meal, which sometimes comes in microwavable bowls.
