Fire displaces at least 10 from Colorado Springs apartment complex

At least 10 people are displaced after fire tore through an apartment complex in Colorado Springs.

The fire broke out around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, at the Union Heights Apartments on the 4700 block of Nightingale Dr.

Colorado Springs firefighters say the fire started on a balcony and spread up three floors into an attic.

“I woke up with people pounding on my door,” said Sandy Sergeant, an evacuee.

A man living across the street in a neighboring apartment complex called it in after spotting the flames from his balcony.

“We have a view right across the street, I yelled.. there’s a fire and knew I had to go over there,” said Omari Williams.

Williams got in his car, jumped a median and started knocking on doors warning people about the fire.

“The whole time I was honking, trying to yell, and everyone was still asleep,” he said.

At this time, no injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

“It was terrifying, I’m still shaking from it,” said Annastasia Harman, an evacuee displaced from her home.

The Red Cross has been dispatched to help the evacuees find a temporary place to stay.
