Elevated fire danger – 04/18/18

Today: We’ll still battle elevated fire danger; however, we won’t be grappling with *extreme* fire danger. That’s the good news. Because wind speeds won’t be strong enough, we don’t have Red Flag Warnings in effect. Even still, be careful and postpone outdoor burning. We’ll have low relative humidity levels and dry fuels. Temperatures today won’t be quite as warm as what we got yesterday; highs will reach the 50s and 60s. Lots of sunshine is expected. Overall, it should be a mild and pleasant day for getting outside!

Tonight: Clear skies are expected overnight. Lows drop to the 20s and 30s. It could be a bit breezy into early tomorrow morning, but time will tell. Stick with us.

Extended: Temperatures warm up Thursday due to southwesterly winds ahead of our next area of low pressure (which tomorrow will be situated over the Great Basin to our west). We have Fire Weather Watches in place for tomorrow due to gusts possibly reaching the 30s and 40s. For this reason, we also have a Wind Alert Level One in effect Thursday. Friday, this area of low pressure will swing through our state. This powerful spring storm system will drop temperatures and keep things gusty. It could also spark rain, snow and lightning. Hefty snow accumulations are possible in Teller County with some slush and accumulation in northern El Paso County as well. Some decent precipitation (some amounts to more than 1″!) is possible over the rest of the southeastern plains as well into Saturday. We’ll be drier Sunday.
