Douglas Co. fires burn houses, prompt evacuation notices

Three homes burned and surrounding homes were evacuated on N. Foxtail Drive Tuesday morning in Castle Rock. No injuries have been reported.

Multiple units from South Metro were on the scene helping with the fire and were able to get the homes extinguished before noon. All that was left of one house was smoldering rubble.

Within the same hour, another fire was called out near Rampart Range Road and Highway 67. (MAP) The highway was closed between Elephant Rock Road and Pine Creek Road.

The Douglas County Sheriff released a pre-evacuation map and said large animals can be taken to the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

The U.S. Forest Service took over battling that blaze, which was about 60 percent contained as of 1:45 p.m.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office also issued a pre-evacuation notice to the area of Keene Ranch Tuesday morning but that was lifted by about 11 a.m. as firefighters started mopping up the flames. That fire started as a small grass fire near Dawson Butte and Tomah Road. The fire was 100 percent contained by about noon, and Larkspur FPD said it burned about an acre.
