Fountain Utilities implements water restrictions in effort to avoid using contaminated well water

Fountain Utilities says it needs customers to cut back on water usage if it’s going to continue sourcing 100% of its water from Pueblo Reservoir.

Stage three water restrictions are now in effect.

Under stage three restrictions, city irrigation is limited to Monday and Friday, homes at even number addresses can water on Sunday and Wednesday, homes at odd addresses can water on Tuesday and Saturday and businesses can water on Monday and Friday.

Customers are encouraged to water between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. on their designated days.

If enough water is not conserved, the utility may be forced to use well water. The aquifer that supplies water to wells in Fountain, Security and Widefield is contaminated with chemicals called PFCs, which can have negative health effects for pregnant women and babies.
