Man who died in fall from cliff above highway 24 identified

A man who died after falling from a cliff near the Rainbow Falls Bridge at the west end of Manitou Springs has been identified.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says he was Michael Edward Black, 62.

Black fell to his death on Monday, August 31, 2015. He was identified on Wednesday, September 2, 2015.

On Monday, the sheriff’s office said Black fell between 70 and 80 feet onto the road below and that they think he was camping or living in the area.

Foul play is not suspected. Investigators are looking into the weather as a possible factor. There were thunderstorms in the area at the time. Drugs and alcohol have not been ruled out.

The sheriff’s office says Black’s cause and manner of death will be released when toxicology results become available.
