Men wear heels for a good cause in Pueblo

It was a fashion statement at the Arkansas Riverwalk Saturday.

Hundreds of men put on their heels for the 2nd annual Walk A Mile In Her Shoes event in Pueblo.

Men traded in their boots and shoes for heels.

“It’s pretty different; I don’t know how girls can do it all the time because my calves are just flexed the whole time,” Ronell McNeil said. He is a football player for CSU-Pueblo.

But the heels have a deeper meaning at the event.

“High heels symbolize the struggle that women go through who have experienced sexual violence and it’s difficult to walk in high heels, which is the connection,” Pueblo Rape Crisis Services Director Kristi Roque said.

The group said 68 percent of sexual violent crimes went unreported last year in the U.S.

The event was also a fundraiser for Pueblo Rape Crisis Services. The group said it raised more than $5,000 at the event.
