Saturday thunderstorms bring hail, prompt flood fears

Strong thunderstorms brought heavy rain and hail to much of the Pikes Peak Region on Saturday afternoon and evening.

A flood advisory was issued for El Paso County until 11:30 p.m. after a thunderstorm brought between 0.24″ and 0.50″ of rain to the Waldo Canyon burn scar. Emergency managers reported 3″ of water and small debris on highway 24 near Cascade earlier in the evening. It has since been cleared.

Elsewhere Saturday, strong thunderstorms brought shredding hail and buckets of rainfall to northeastern El Paso County and Teller County.

Viewers reported significant hail in Black Forest, Calhan, and Cripple Creek.

Dangerous lightning also accompanied Saturday’s storms.

The storms also prompted severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings in parts of northeastern Colorado and the Denver metro area earlier in the day Saturday.
