Canon City Police Chief Resigns

Canon City’s Police Chief, Duane McNeill, has resigned. This comes after he was placed on administrative leave in April following the release of an independent audit of the police department.

The audit said there were more than 400 phone calls from citizens complaining about McNeill’s rudeness and bad attitude. However, McNeill says that is not true and he was never given a list of those complaints.

On Monday, interim City Manager Doug Dotson told City Council he will begin the process of replacing McNeill. There is no timeframe for when that will happen. Meanwhile, Police Captains Jim Cox and Allen Cooper will jointly run the department.

McNeill had been police chief since December 2009.
