Man Drowns In Chaffee County

A man drowned in Clear Creek Reservoir on Thursday evening.

According to numerous witnesses at the scene, the man at the reservoir for a picnic with his friends and family. He was giving two girls, ages 6 and 8, rides on a small aluminum boat.

Witnesses say he was doing small figure-eights at a slow speed about 400 feet from shore when the boat began to fill with water. The two girls were wearing life preservers, however, the man was not. The man was able to take the girls towards shore and friends and family helped get the girls to safety. The man was not able to make it to shore on his own and went under the water.

Witnesses pulled him to shore and started CPR immediately. Chaffee County EMS arrived and continued CPR but the man remained unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene.
