Pro Cycling Creates Traffic Detours
The world’s best cyclists will be converging on Colorado. The U.S. Pro Cycling Challenge kicks off on Aug. 22. But as they sprint through our state, they’ll also be blocking off busy streets and interstates.
The riders will complete more than 500 miles over 7 days. They will be passing through Colorado Springs, Salida, Crested Butte, Gunnison, Aspen, Vail, Avon, Steamboat Springs, Breckenridge, Golden and Denver.
Organizers expect as many as a million fans to turn out. There are 136 professional riders competing.
The challenge will create many delays and detours for motorists.
In Colorado Springs, a section of Colorado Avenue will be closed on Aug. 22 from noon to 4 p.m.. Drivers can also expect delays on I-25 near Garden of the Gods and some right and left turns will be impacted on U.S. 24/Cimmaron Street, also from noon to 4 p.m.
