El Paso County Lifts Fire Restrictions

The El Paso County Sheriff’s office lifted Stage I Fire Restrictions for unincorporated El Paso County Wednesday afternoon. The restrictions have been in place since June.

The sheriff’s office does urge everyone to remain cautious, saying “In spite of recent precipitation, the fire danger still exists and could increase should the hot and dry conditions return. Fire officials will continue to monitor fuels, weather, and the number of human caused outside fires to determine when the restrictions may be needed again.”

Lt. Greg Martinez of the Colorado Springs Fire Department also told KRDO Newschannel 13 there is still some concern. “We hope that people are still vigilant with fire. Even though we have been receiving all this moisture, our fuel moisture levels are still relatively low in parts of town,” said Martinez.

Colorado Springs remains under Fire Restrictions that prohibit bonfires, recreational burning and outdoor fires.

Fire Restrictions for Pueblo County have been downgraded from Stage II to Stage I.
