Nationally Known Rapper Injured After COS Show

COLORADO SPRINGS – Denver’s Westword music blog, Backbeat, reports that rapper Del Tha Funky Homosapien, who was scheduled to play in Denver Friday night, was hit by a drunken driver en route from Colorado Springs to Denver Thursday night. His show is canceled.

To help lessen the blow in a somewhat ironic statement, tonight’s show is free and the bar will have PBRs for a buck.

Del the Funky Homosapien (aka Teren Delvon Jones) and his crew were making their way up from Colorado Springs to Denver for a scheduled show at the Larimer Lounge, an Escalade reportedly driven by a drunk driver rear ended the crew. Although Del and company escaped major injuries, Del, who was sleeping at the time of impact, suffered whiplash, as did another member of his crew. Understandably, Del will not be appearing tonight, but will return to Denver for a make-up date on Friday, November 6. No word yet on whether Opio and Bukue 1 will perform this evening as scheduled, but rest of the bill is still intact, with ManeLine, Whygee, Gyp Da Hi, Chou Tanoshii, DJs Klaw and Mu$a appearing as scheduled.

***UPDATE***

NEWSCHANNEL 13 was able to speak with Bukue 1 on Friday evening. He is a performer, touring with Del the Funky Homosapien, and was driving the crew to Denver early this morning.

He says the group was in downtown Denver, having just performed at the Black Sheep nightclub in Colorado Springs, and was stopped at a red light.

They were struck from behind, according to Bukue 1. It was hard enough to send a cell phone from the dashboard of the car, all the way into the rear row of seats, where Delvon Jones was sleeping at the time. He tells NEWSCHANNEL 13 that everyone was able to get out of the car, including the other driver, but once he saw the damage, he fled on foot.

Everyone riding in the car is expected to recover.
