Preliminary hearing starts Thursday for suspect in Kelsie Schelling case

For the first time, evidence authorities gathered to charge the prime suspect involved Kelsie Schelling’s disappearance will be presented to a Pueblo judge Thursday.

Donthe Lucas was charged with first-degree murder back in December, four years since Schelling disappeared. Officials have kept the Lucas’ arrest affidavit sealed since charges were announced. His preliminary hearing starts Thursday and will go on until Friday. This means we may finally find out what officials found while digging out Lucas’ backyard.

Schelling disappeared after reportedly driving from Denver to Pueblo to see Lucas, her boyfriend at the time. Schelling was eight weeks pregnant, Lucas was believed to be the father. That was in 2013, Schelling has not been seen or heard from since then.

Now after years of searching for her, Schelling’s family may get answers to questions they have been asking since the beginning.

During the preliminary hearing, a judge will decide if the prosecution has enough evidence for Lucas to stand trial. If not, the search for Schelling’s killer continues.
