83rd Pikes Peak or Bust Parade canceled

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The 83rd Pikes Peak or Bust Parade has been canceled, organizers announced Friday.

In a statement, organizers said they made the "difficult decision" to cancel the parade and all parade-day activities scheduled for July 11, after determining they could not secure the resources needed to produce the event.

"We simply could not secure the resources necessary to produce the event at the level our community deserves," the organization said.

The announcement comes as many in the Colorado Springs community were preparing for the annual tradition, which has long been a kickoff to rodeo festivities.

Organizers thanked volunteers, sponsors, supporters, and community members who contributed their time and enthusiasm toward the event. Officials confirmed to KRDO13 that those who entered to be in the parade will be refunded.

"We know many of you were looking forward to the parade, and we're incredibly grateful to everyone who offered their time, support, sponsorship, and enthusiasm," the statement said.

Although the parade has been canceled this year, the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo will continue as planned from July 14–18, with tickets currently on sale.

Organizers said they remain hopeful the parade will return in the future.

"Thank you, Colorado Springs. We hope to see you at the rodeo, and we remain hopeful that this beloved tradition can return in the future," the statement concluded.
