COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - Colorado Springs city crews have completed repairs to a sinkhole that opened up at Chapel Hills Mall.

The sinkhole opened up back in July. Officials say a city-owned stormwater pipe that runs under the mall was damaged following a storm, causing the hole to open.

Once crews began repair work they noticed the damage was more extensive than originally thought. So the city determined that it would be safer and more cost-effective to replace a longer section of pipe to prevent more damage.

The city used emergency funds to make the repairs.
