Tenacious D to perform with Colorado Symphony at Red Rocks

The duo of Tenacious D is getting a bit of help from some friends in the Colorado Symphony this summer when the rock group takes on Red Rocks.

Jack Black (a frequent player in many Hollywood movies) and Kyle Gass (an infrequent player in few Hollywood movies) are bringing their face-melting acoustics to Colorado for the first stop of their Post-Apocalypto tour on July 25. Tickets are going on sale this Friday.

Tenacious D put out its first album in 2001 after the pair starred in a television series by the same name. Despite being a comedy album with songs like “Kielbasa,” “Wonderboy,” and “F*** her Gently,” the album rose to number 33 in the Billboard Top 200. The group’s most popular song, “Tribute,” was played heavily and had a music video featuring Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl in a cameo role.

The band’s first movie, The Pick of Destiny, arrived in 2006 and continued the mythology from the album and TV show. Last year, Black and Gass released Post-Apocalypto as six episodes on YouTube. This tour will most likely feature songs from that series in addition to their previous works.

We can only imagine how the Colorado Symphony will complement the songs, and let’s hope Kyle doesn’t quit the band midway through.
