UPDATE: ‘Sparkler bomb’ prompts lockdown at storage unit near Cimarron Hills

The Colorado Springs Explosion unit and deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responded to a suspicious package in a storage unit near Omaha and Powers Blvd. Wednesday afternoon.

New owners of an abandoned storage locker discovered a suspicious bottle. The owners called the Colorado Explosion unit to inspect the bottle. Authorities say the bottle was packaged in a suspicious way.

After further investigation, authorities determined the bottle was a “sparkler bomb,” which is considered an explosive device.

Businesses in the area can resume normal activity after being asked to hunker down.

The area has been deemed safe and secure.
