Canon City goes back to school with new safety measures in place

As another district goes back to school, safety is a main concern. The Canon City district has placed new safety features in its schools to protect your child.

Parents of students at Harrison Elementary and Middle School are excited about these new security measures.

“With the double security doors, we have the new alert system that gives you an extra peace about the school year,” said Bret Meuli, the father of a 5th and 7th grader.

The school has two doors leading into the building. Through the first set of doors, you have to check in with an attendant before you are buzzed in.

And new alarm systems allow students or teachers to push a button, triggering a lockdown alarm. This will turn on blue flashing lights throughout the school, alerting teachers and students to shelter in place.
