Southern Colorado sees three brush fires in 1 day

Is wildfire season here already? Southern Colorado got a sneak preview on Thursday of what could be one of the worst seasons yet.

Two brush fires were seen in the southern area of El Paso County and one sparked on Post at Fort Carson.

The one on Fort Carson was 300 acres and was seen by residents in Pueblo. We are unsure of the exact location where the fire was burning, but we know that it was on Fort Carson’s training range.

It was mostly contained by 11 a.m. and no structures were ever in danger.

The other two were very close to each other.

There was also a fire off Boca Chica Heights just west of Interstate 25 in the Midway Ranch area. It burned around 78 acres and destroyed three vehicles including a motorhome. A home and two outbuildings had fire damage but were not lost in the fire.

Authorities believe it could have been started by a vehicle fire, but it is still early in the investigation.

Around 30 minutes away and just east of Fountain was the Squirrel Creek Fire. Little details are known about this brush fire, but it appeared to be completely extinguished by 3:30 p.m. According to our crews, it was fairly close to the Fountain Landfill.

Both the Midway Ranch and the Squirrel Creek fires are in the mop-up process.

No injuries were reported on Thursday.

Unfortunately, going into the weekend, there are slim chances of rain and strong winds are expected to continue. So, authorities ask that the public take the necessary precautions needed in dry weather conditions.
