Woman killed in El Paso County crash

A 25-year-old woman was killed and another seriously injured when their car rolled and hit a cement culvert in El Paso County.

It happened at 5:30 a.m. Monday (6/29) on I-25 approximately six miles south of Colorado Springs.

State Patrol said the car went off the left side of the road then off the right side of the road before the driver over- corrected. The car rolled and hit a cement culvert. The car then went airborne and landed on its roof.

The driver, 25-year-old Brittany Arellano of Pueblo, was wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, 21-year-old Mariah Ney of Pueblo, was not wearing a seatbelt. She was taken to Memorial Central Hospital with serious injuries.

State Patrol said driving while asleep was a contributing factor in the crash.
