Colorado Springs cleared for sports attractions

Colorado Springs will get some help from the state for a slate of sports-related attractions called the “City for Champions.”

The project includes a downtown Olympic museum and nearby sports arena, a sports medicine clinic at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs and a visitor’s center at the U.S. Air Force Academy.

The Gazette reports that the city won state assistance for the project Monday.

The Colorado Economic Development Commission approved an estimated $120.5 million in incentives for the project.

The City for Colorado Springs and El Paso County plan to round up the rest of the funds needed for the $250 million project.

Under the agreement approved Monday, the city would have five years to break ground on the projects and 10 years to complete them.
