Body of missing climber found in Maroon Bells

Searchers have found the body of a climber who died after getting separated from two hiking partners in the Maroon Bells near Aspen over the weekend.

Pitkin County coroner’s officials say Steve Gladbach, of Pueblo, died of a head injury, as well as multiple systems injuries, after a fall on Thunder Pyramid Peak.

Sheriff’s officials say he was among three people who climbed Cathedral Peak together Friday, Hagerman Peak on Saturday, and Thunder Pyramid Peak on Sunday. Sheriff’s officials say he descended Thunder Pyramid Peak well ahead of the others, who lost sight of him.

The others activated a personal emergency locator transmitter after being unable to find Gladbach.

A Colorado Army National Guard helicopter spotted his body Monday.
