POLICE: 2 Seriously Hurt In DUI Crash

An early morning car crash traps two people in a car near the intersection of E. Fountain Blvd. and S. Murray Blvd. The major accident unit is now working to figure out exactly what happened.

Police said they suspect drunk driving caused the crash. Ninka Romero, 36, has been arrested and faces felony charges relating to vehicular assault, involving serious bodily injuries to the passenger, according to police.

Romero and her male passenger were in a 1999 Acura that veered off the road and hit a curb. The car then crashed into a large tree.

Both Romero and her passenger had to be extricated from the car by Colorado Springs firefighters.

It took emergency crews a little more than half an hour to get both the driver and passenger out of the vehicle.

Both people were badly injured. Colorado Springs police said icy roads may have also played a factor in this crash.
