9/11 Mural Painted In Colorado Springs

The owner of West Side Tattoo, Aaron Moore, told KRDO Newschannel 13 it was very important to him to commemorate the tragic events of Sept. 11.

Moore said he is dedicating one of the walls on the exterior of his shop to an art mural, painted by local artist Michael Schwartz, also known as Halo.

Schwartz said he will be working with another artist from West Side Tattoo to complete the large mural. Schwartz said an eagle, fireman, statue of liberty and lights symbolic of the events that transpired will be incorporated into the piece.

?It?s been 10 years, doesn?t feel like 10 years. We?re just trying to move forward with a little bit of hope and set that mood. We?re behind it and we support it,? said Schwartz.

Schwartz said the mural will be done in shades of gray, with the words ?Colorado Remembers? written in red.

?It feels awesome. I did 12 years in the Air Force. I worked at NORAD/NORTHCOM, so homeland defense is kind of close to me. My brother is deployed in Iraq right now. It is definitely close to home for myself,? said Schwartz.

The mural will be completed by Saturday night, and is located near South 21st Street and West Colorado Avenue.
