Colorado Springs Police report officer involved shooting off Academy Blvd.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -

UPDATE at 3:50 p.m.:

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office announced they are taking over the officer-involved shooting investigation.

According to the sheriff's office, the call reporting shots fired originally came in around 11:00 p.m. from the 3800 block of Astrozon Boulevard.

EPC Sheriff's Office says Colorado Springs Police Officers negotiated with the individual for nearly an hour, during which he refused to comply with the officers’ demands to drop the weapon and, at times, fired multiple shots in the area.

Colorado Springs Police officers attempted to use non-lethal rounds, but authorities say that was unsuccessful.

Then, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office report, at one point, the suspect raised the weapon toward law enforcement, and several officers fired at least one round, striking the suspect. Colorado Springs Police officers rendered medical aid on the scene; however, the suspect died at the scene.

Several Colorado Springs Police Officers were placed on administrative leave due to their involvement, which is in line with Colorado Springs Police policy.

The identity of the suspect has not been released at this time.

Colorado Springs Police are investigating an Officer-involved shooting that happened overnight and went into Saturday morning.

Officers say that earlier in the night, a man had called CSP threatening to kill himself. Officers tried to find him at his home, but he wasn't there.

Later on in the night, Officers got calls for shots fired on Astrozon Boulevard. When they arrived, they determined the man had called in earlier during the night threatening to kill himself.

Officers attempted to de-escalate the man who fired multiple rounds in the area. They also tried to use non-lethal forces to reduce injury, but when he pointed a gun at officers, multiple officers fired one round, killing the man.

The investigation is ongoing.
