Multiple teens found in a stolen car and with guns in Memorial Park

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Three teens were found in a stolen car with guns in a popular Colorado Springs park.

At 7:34 p.m., on July 6, the Colorado Springs Police Department's Downtown Area Response Team (DART) found a stolen vehicle while patrolling Memorial Park. The stolen vehicle was sitting in a parking lot in the 1700 block of East Bijou St., just north of the skate park.

Inside the vehicle were three teens between the ages of 14 and 16.

DART requested additional resources to help take the suspects into custody. When officers tried detaining the teens, they tried running away. They were all eventually apprehended in the parking lot and Bijou St.

CSPD said the teen driver had a stolen handgun and one of the teen passengers also had a handgun.

According to CSPD, two of the teens were charged. The third was returned home.
