Police identify victims of 2 Colorado Springs shootings

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has identified the victims of two separate shootings that occurred in the city over the past week.

22-year-old Gene Carnes of Colorado Springs has been identified as the victim of a shooting on Friday, Sept. 16 on the Bijou St. bridge over I-25.

Police said Carnes' death is being investigated as a homicide and charges are pending against a suspect. That individual is not being identified at this time.

CSPD said Carnes' death is the 33rd homicide investigation in the city so far in 2022.

19-year-old Trevor Branson of Colorado Springs has been identified as the victim of a shooting that occurred on Sept. 18 in the 6000 block of Gunshot Pass Dr.

Police said Branson's death is being investigated as a homicide. His death is still an active investigation and anyone with information or who was a witness to this investigation is asked to contact the Colorado Springs Police Department or Crime Stoppers.

CSPD said Branson's death is the 34th homicide investigation in the city so far in 2022.

At this time last year, CSPD had investigated 25 homicides.
