Police shooting in Colorado Springs ruled justified

A fatal shooting that involved two Colorado Springs police officers has been ruled justified by the District Attorney’s Office.

The shooting happened outside of the Elevate apartment complex on Crestone Lane on Jan. 12.

According to the report, 41-year-old Bill Akes was shot three times after he raised an ax, threatening one of the officers.

The shooting happened as Akes was fighting off the officers in a stolen vehicle. Akes was sleeping in the vehicle when he was awakened by officers.

Akes tried to drive away with the officers in the truck before the struggle.

On Thursday, we learned that Akes had a large amount of meth in his system at the time of the incident.
